I think it's too easy for university people to follow a trail to my blog, and I'd like to feel free to blog saying anything I'd like.

Oh man it was a long weekend! But a fun one. Saturday was International Meat Day, which I know you are all aware of. Ric and I had to go to a graduation party in Laguna Beach. Of course, we were given skimpy directions and ended up in a beautiful neighborhood that wasn't anywhere near where we were supposed to be. We called up and said we were looking for Las Brisas, and the wife says, "Oh! That's a restauraunt! That's my fault, sorry!" So, a Thomas Guide search later, we were going to park and found that we needed to pay the meter with ONLY quarters, and had to circle back to the nearest fast food place to get some change. Thus, my first meal on IMD was: popcorn chicken from KFC. Decent taste, nothing special. We eventually got to the party and they were offering a vast selection of sausage, sausage, or sausage - all of which had funky flavoring. I wouldn't touch them.
Later that night we got together with Gron and Justin and Michelle for dinner at Ruby's. Boy did that food bite. Greasy as heck. Anyway, the highlight of that night was when we realized Albers was there with his family, only a couple of tables away. Once we clued in Justin and Michelle as to who he was, they started having loud conversation about how having an abortion was the best choice they ever made. Everyone cursed up a storm, and Albers definitely noticed. Ha ha ha. There was also a creepy couple who watched us from across the way because they couldn't make decent conversation with each other.
Later that night we watched the Book of Mormon movie while drinking. It was so bad I just fell asleep.
Sunday we had a surprise birthday party for Jon and Wes. I extended my meat day to a meat weekend because the food was so bad on Saturday, and let myself have some tasty grilled chicken. We had a fun time with the games, including "Pin the Lei on the Pinup Girl" and a watergun competition for the guys. Good times, good times. You can see the pictures HERE.

I just realized I forgot to post about this one. Shrek 2 was: not as funny as the first, but funnier than most comedies out there. I prefer the humor here to that of animated features such as finding nemo. Shrek 2 was full of energy, jokes, color, and fun. I think where it wasn't as fun was just that it lacked real adventure, like the first. But it was a fun time on a bad day for me, and a good show for people of all ages. I swear, the sad look on the cat was hilarious. I get that look from people who want something in my office all the time.

Since Kristen asked:
We "met" this morning when my supervisor basically started addressing me without letting the other ladies know what was going on. She started by asking how I could've handled it better, and I honestly didn't know. I never went through training for this crap. I said that I'd been treated badly by the lady every time she came in, and my supervisor was still trying to point out my mistakes (while admitting that she hadn't even listened to the entire conversation - yeah, that makes sense!). So finally, the other two caught on to what we were talking about and suggested ways to approach evil students, and we all agreed to back each other up when a "situation" arises, and if anyone feels incredibly uncomfortable, they can pass the situation on to someone else and leave the room to calm down. We also want to document these kinds of occurrences, so I'll probably adapt my summary I posted here for a more G-rated audience and hand it in.
Overall, it was okay, but in the next week or so, I still want to meet with both supervisors to discuss other issues that have left me hating the thought of going to work lately. I did tell you all that I am not supposed to play WebBoggle at my computer even during breaks, didn't I? Or that when a supervisor (who is unobservant and can't see that you've got TEN MILLION things to do) asks me to do a frivolous errand, I should always find a way to get it done (this was passed to me as "advice from an older working lady to a younger working lady" when for the first time ever working here, I said, "I don't think I have enough time"). Or that it's okay for everyone to joke around, but whenever my supervisor (the biggest joker) is suddenly in a sensitive mood and wants to be treated as a supervisor, it's suddenly disrespectful???

i guess i still hold resentment because he was ingraffia's favorite.
| "God will not suffer man to have the knowledge of things to come; for if he had prescience of his prosperity he would be careless; and understanding of his adversity he would be senseless." |
| You are Augustine! You love to study tough issues and don't mind it if you lose sleep over them. Everyone loves you and wants to talk to you and hear your views, you even get things like "nice debating with you." Yep, you are super smart, even if you are still trying to figure it all out. You're also very honest, something people admire, even when you do stupid things. |

Tomorrow is International Meat day!
Celebrate with family and friends, and make sure to eat some hefty portions of dead animals.
Poll:
I need somewhere not expensive but with good meats to eat at tomorrow. Where should I go??

That's it. I can't see one of our students any more. I just can't talk to her and I'm going to EXPLODE next time she comes in the office and I have to deal with her.
Every time I try to explain things to this lady, she talks down to me and interrupts me and skews everything I say. Even when I'm just explaining things to her or trying to help her, she's ALWAYS on the defense. She always turns to everyone else in the department for help.
Today, she comes in and says, "I got permission to take this class last night and went on WebReg and wasn't allowed!"
I say, "Did you request a signature on WebReg?"
She says, "I was approved last night!"
I say, "But you still have to request a signature. Did someone grant you one yesterday?"
She says, "Yes, I got permission last night!"
I say, "Melinda, did you give her a signature for this class last night?"
Melindsa says, "That was a course appeal, not a signature."
I try to explain this to the lady and say, "The thing you got signed last night was an OKAY to take the class (because it was out of order), not a signature." Before I can explain to her the difference between a course appeal and a signature for a class and how to request a signature, she interrupts -
"I didn't sign anything last night. I was told I didn't have to do any paperwork for that. They all signed that. And then I went on and I wasn't allowed! And I had to take off work to come in yesterday [to complain to the department chair about wanting a grade change that she's been pestering someone in the department about for an eternity - and how a person can get a C in one of our classes is beyond me] and then now that this hasn't gone through, I had to take ANOTHER day off of work."
Now, I don't like being blamed for people taking days off of work, and I say, "But you didn't have to take off work. You could have called me-" and before I could says that I could have granted her the signature online via the phone, she interrupts again.
"I couldn't call you last night! It was late at night!"
I say, "You could have called me today and I could have-"
She interrupts, "No, this needs to be done. Four o'clock today. And so I had to take another day off work."
Finally Melinda comes over because she can hear that I'm PISSED OFF and she says she's sorry. For what, I don't know.
So we figure out what the lady needs and I fill out her summer registration card FOR HER. While I'm filling it out, she says in her sweet little voice, "I'm not trying to cause trouble, 'cause you know I love you guys, and I'm just trying to get things done!"
Fuck you, lady. I don't love you. You're a bitch to me every time I see you. The last time I saw you, you insisted that a professor was avoiding you about a grade change, and when I told you that our professors aren't childish enough to avoid students and explained that she just needed to wait to be contacted, you went to SOMEONE ELSE and told them the same damn story, as if that would get any more of a result for you. Maybe if you just shut up and listen to what I have to say, instead of yapping your defensive nonsensical accusations at me, you might LEARN how to act like a professional and responsible adult. You're over 40 for God's sake!
She even left saying, "Have a blessed weekend!" And I just gave her a stare as she walked out the door. Yeah, if "blessed" means "horrible weekend where you will be KILLED," I would have said, "You too!"
Update: I just got an email from my supervisor. She wants to talk to me privately about this incident. If you read this before 2, please pray for me. I can't believe I'm going to get 'a talking to' when one of our students was yelling at ME.

So I stepped outside our apartment complex this morning and looked up to see a hubcap and some other little part flying off of a truck that was driving down the road. The hubcap magically missed all of the cars parked on the curb and flew down the sidewalk. The other little part flew right at me and hit me in the leg.
Nice way to start the day. I just feel sorry for the driver who won't even notice it's gone 'till later today and then wonder where it happened. Poor bastard.

Super Size Me was awesome!
The premise: a documentarian does an experiment - eating 3 meals a day at McDonald's for 30 days. He must supersize when asked, and he must try everything on the menu at least once. He makes continuous visits to doctors to document the changes to his body. He gains tons of weight, endangers his liver, loses his sex drive, suffers from depression, and more.
He also focuses a lot on McDonald's while looking into today's fast food industry, and the hot lunch meals at public schools. Let me tell you, if I watched this movie once a week, I'd probably be a better eater.
This movie was great. There were a lot of laughs and a lot of information. The artwork between each segment included some rather scary portrayals of Ronald McDonald. I really liked how the movie wasn't aimed at blaming fast food restaurants for people's obesity. It did ponder where the line is drawn between the corporation's responsibility to offer better foods and nutrition info and the consumer's responsibility to make wise choices. In the end, the conclusion is good: YOU need to decide who should die first - you, or fast food franchises.
Very entertaining. I'm glad I went.

i love this time of year, because it's when i start looking for images to create the flier for International Meat Day! of course, on the site right now, it says 2004, but last year i messed up and named it 2004 instead of 2003. oh well.
but anyway, i discovered there's a World Vegan Day for us to compete with.
and i found this great random picture:

more to come on the actual details of this year's international meat day later. i'll also eventually update the 2003 info with pictures.

Well, I haven't been posting much lately. Sorry about that. It's not for a lack of things to talk about. I've actually been TOOOOO busy.
- We just got our thank-you postcards recently, and I've been working on updating addresses and etc. for that stuff.
- We just got a counter offer on the house and are in the process of accepting it. We're calling and faxing back and forth a lot.
- Work is busy. I think I'm enjoying myself because one of my supervisors is gone. But yeah, pre-reg is keeping me pretty tired!
- I need to do laundry. Three weeks ago, we were busy with Ric's grandparents and the Morgans. Two weeks ago I went to Coachella. One week ago I went to Arizona. I haven't had a weekend break in a while. HEY GRACE - we should go to a movie or something sometime this weekend. BTW, MSN Messenger isn't letting me sign on, and I'm bored and want to chat you.
- I'm still doing this massive project of copying all of my sister's cds. The problem is that I get all artsy and try to duplicate the artwork on the cds.
- There's probably more, but it's not all that interesting for you, the reader.

I just got this email. Yeah. What about a day without a whitey?? I should go just to see what kind of quality a film like this would have.
But hey, in a day without a Mexican, maybe there would a chance for honest immigrants to get work and be able to stay in this country.
"TELEVISA CINE and CAMPUS CIRCLE invite you and a guest to an advance screening of A DAY WITHOUT A MEXICAN on Wednesday, May 12 at 8:00 PM in Century City.
"TO ATTEND THIS SCREENING, DOWNLOAD A FREE PASS AT
http://www.campuscircle.net/mexican
"AS ALWAYS, GET TO THE THEATER EXTRA EARLY. SEATING IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS AND IS NOT GUARANTEED.
"WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT?
Comedy and Drama One morning, California wakes up to find that one third of its population has disappeared. A strange thick pink fog surrounds the state and communication outside its boundaries is completely cut off. As the day goes by, we discover that the characteristic that links the 14 million disappeared is their Hispanic background. The economic, political and social implications of this disaster threaten the state's way of life. Suddenly disrupted are the lives of Mary Jo Quintana (Maureen Flannigan), teacher and housewife; Senator Abercrombie (John Getz), hastily promoted to Governor; Louise McClaire (Muse Watson), ranch owner and agribusiness rep; and Lila Rodriguez (Yareli Arizmendi), reporter and apparently the only Latina left behind. For all of them, the cracks in their private lives are forced wide open. As time goes by, the State continues to deteriorate - garbage has taken over the streets and a mood of desperation pervades as the citizens watch the infrastructure start to crumble."

We took a trip to AZ this past weekend to go house hunting. Feels weird to possibly be purchasing a house this next week. THIS IS what we might buy. This was a great home, perfectly clean, great appliances, beautiful. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. The view from the house right now is great, because just across the street is nothing but land. For now. Anyway, we're waiting to see the specs on the neighborhood, such as how many other renters there are and what we can charge for rent. If it looks good, we'll be putting in a bid very soon!

You know, every time I look at this picture, I think, "Wow. So they found one facial expression that made them think Tom actually did a good acting job, and they're throwing it around like crazy so we'll all think he's gotten better." Too bad he's still Tom Cruise as Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai.

So, my review of this movie is most likely tainted by the fact that some junior highers had a noisemaker that repeatedly sounded through the entirety of this movie. Over the years, I have slowly grown more bold about letting people know that they're ruining my movie. This time was absolutely too much, and I joined Ric in scolding the little brats after the movie. I know it won't make much of a difference, but the reason those kids act the way they do is because nobody has ever held them accountable for their actions, so I just wanted them to KNOW that they ruined everything for everyone in the theatre, and that they were completely disrespectful.
Anyway, the movie was good, until the end. I really like Johnny Depp as an actor. He really did carry the movie, as most of it was just him wandering around, feeling scared/paranoid. He did really well, and the story was interesting.. but the ending wasn't enough for me. But who knows? I was so pissed off by the time we reached the end that I may just dislike it because of some idiot pre-teens!
