Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) - A Five Minute Review

I saw a short segment of the Kennedy Center Honors a couple months back, and they were paying tribute to Mel Brooks. It reminded me that I had never seen Robin Hood: Men in Tights, so I added it to my queue and pushed it up to the top, because I felt like I needed a good laugh. I'm not so sure I had any heartily good laughs while watching this movie, but I didn't hate it, either.
I think it starts off very slowly, and some of the trouble with the movie is that it's less of a spoof on the actual Robin Hood stories than I thought it would be. It's actually a bunch of jokes placed in the Robin Hood environments of the Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner movies. There are a lot of body jokes, like a moving mole on someone's face, or a heavyset lady, or a blind guy (okay, he did make me laugh).
Once things got a little more urgent in the plot, the jokes started rolling out a little more. I also liked the Men in Tights song. It's a very dated movie, though, and it's somewhat of a time capsule for early 90s humor.
I think Brooks has moments of genius, but a lot of his movies are uneven instead of consistently funny (there are definitely some exceptions, like The Producers and Young Frankenstein). This wasn't what I was hoping it would be, but by the end, I did chuckle a little at the spectacle.
