Weekend

Hey everybody,

I guess I should start off the weekend update with some health updates, because Ric's grandma passed away on Tuesday with grandpa, her son, and Ric's brother next to her. Ric spent the weekend with the family, and they all drove out to check out a cemetery, as well as talked out plans for the funeral, which will be on Saturday. As Ric has said, we are fine and aren't in need of real condolences. What concerns us the most right now are the family tensions regarding the funeral and the eventual plans for grandpa. While everyone does feel sorry for Grandpa, he is taking every opportunity to either be needy or assert authority or fight, whichever feeds his momentary fancy, and that's very wearing on everyone else. I guess we won't need to wait long to find out how it will all play out.

It's been a weekend of very different types of entertainment. On Friday night, Ric and I watched some TV and then I messed around on the guitar until we went out to see G.I. Joe at the cheap theater. Wow. So that was one form of entertainment, and an overload at that!

Saturday I slept in while Ric drove out to Lancaster to his grandparents' house for the day. I should have been more productive, but I ended up watching a lot of tv and interneting. I finally kicked it into gear and did a little reading, then called up my sister so I could get out of the funk. We went out to see Bright Star, which was pretty much the polar oppin osite of G.I. Joe. Then we went to pick up a few interesting foods at Sprouts and then checked out the new Target in Brea. Not to be too much of a girl who gushes over a Target, but the design is pretty awesome. They built a parking structure on the first floor and built the target above it. There are escalators to take you upstairs, and there's an escalator for the carts. I almost had to use a cart just to try it out, but decided to just check out other people using the cartalator. That night I caught up with some Kurosawa reading and watched some more tv. What a lazy girl.

Sunday I woke up and kicked it into gear. Church was going to be outdoors and I just don't handle heat well, so I turned on Johnny Cash's My Mother's Hymn Book and sang along while I did things around the house. We can worship in different ways, and sometimes it's nice to actually get to sing some hymns! Friday I discovered I had accidentally left the freezer ajar all day. So I had to throw out everything in it. That was a task, since it was a heavy load of trash, going from upstairs to the ground level and out to the dumpster. I did some dishes, a few loads of laundry, crockpotted a roast and potatoes, mended holes in several garments, cleaned out my closet, reorganized the laundry closet, did finances, and finished my Kurosawa reading. Phew! In the evening I set out to the Dollar Store, 99 Cent Store, and Big Lots to look for Halloween and birthday decorations. Ric and I watched a couple of shows together and then went to pick up my mom's car to get ready to pick her up from the airport tomorrow. And here I sit, watching more tv and getting ready to dig in to either some guitar or some tales of King Arthur.

Up this week:
I've got some shopping to do between restocking my freezer, the regular groceries, getting some ideas for a birthday cubicle decoration, the office Halloween festivities. Over the weekend we'll be heading out to Lancaster for the funeral. It should be thoroughly awkward, but at least we'll get to see some family we don't normally have a chance to see often.

Hope you all have a good week!
