Labor-Free Weekend
Hey everyone! Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend, for those of you who got to have a three-day weekend. I had a mostly good one, and I say mostly because you'll read about the no-so-good episode shortly.
On Thursday night last week, we had a spontaneous movie night with Ryan and Amy because they needed a place to stay while their apartment was being worked on, so we all watched Ric's pick, the animated Transformers movie from the 1980s. I love the variety of movies we watch together.
Friday night, we had a new guest, my sister. She joined us at our house for the weekend. Ric and I finished watching the Dollhouse season one episodes and the bonus episode, which was quite interesting. Then Jenny and I watched Slaughterhouse Five together.
Saturday I slept in and we headed out in the afternoon towards the Beverly Center to go shopping. As we merged from the 605 to the 10 freeway, apparently there was a car in my blind spot, which I cut off. We figured out what happened when a crazy blonde guy in a red Porsche drove alongside us with his window down, yelling at us. Of course, we all get a yell once in a while, so I didn't think much of it, except he kept on yelling for a while, and then he actually decided to swerve far into my lane, either to bash my car or scare me into running into the center divider. That was surprising. I couldn't believe he was willing to put his own car and life in jeopardy, not to mention ours, over a mistake (and honestly, I had checked the rear-view mirror and even looked over my shoulder, and didn't see him). Well, he was still seething, apparently, because even though we were later in the carpool lane and separated from the rest of the lanes, he followed alongside us as we progressed. Once the carpool lane ended, he darted all around us, and settled in behind us. He followed us any time we changed lanes or speeds. After about half an hour of this, we were pretty sure he would follow us to wherever we stopped and do something crazy, so we called 911 to report him. We were on the phone for ten minutes or so, establishing that he was, for sure, following us, when he either got tired of his game or saw that we were on the phone, and he exited. Thankfully, nothing happened, but they did tell us that his information was in their system, and he would get stopped if any police came across him. He really freaked us out, though.
The rest of the weekend was blissfully quiet. Jenny and I finished our shopping and then drove to the promenade in Santa Monica for some dinner, then headed to the Aero to see Los Angeles Plays Itself.
Sunday, we went to church, did laundry, played online, watched some tv, and cooked a meal for me and my sister (have I mentioned I love my new food processor)? Then Ric and I went out to Brea to see It Might Get Loud and came home to watch some of the extras on the Dollhouse DVD.
Monday, we slept in a little bit. I spent a long time online researching guitars for tiny-handed people, read some of the book for the Kurosawa class (thank goodness the book has better Japanese to English translations than the version of Sanshiro Sugata we saw), did some dishes, did more laundry, did some cleaning, watched The Other Boelyn Girl, and then Ric and I headed out. We went to Guitar Center to pick up some strings and try a few small guitars on for size, then to Best Buy for the same thing. After a meal at home, we went to the cheap theater to see Funny People.
So we didn't get a lot accomplished this weekend, but I felt like I did a lot and got a lot rest at the same time. I'm glad to have a short work week, since I was feeling a little burned out last week the the crazy amount of data entry I've been doing lately. I've got some shopping to do today since Costco was closed for the holiday, and on Thursday there's another Movies on the Fox, and I hope to visit Mo's Music to check out a few more guitars before I end up ordering one online (it's so much cheaper than the stores).
Health updates: Nothing new so far! I can't wait to get some allergy testing soon, though, because I keep having skin reactions without knowing what's setting me off. All the relatives seem about the same.
House updates: We have a house up for rent that's being advertised right now. If it rents out for the price we're asking, we'll make a nice little profit each month. If it doesn't rent quickly, we'll lower the price, and still make a decent profit. We're just hoping to get things settled so we aren't paying out money on the place and can focus on some things around our own home.
That's all for now!
