Crazy Love (2007)

Not to be confused with the popular book, this Crazy Love is another in a series of documentaries I watched recently. Of all of them, this was probably the most intriguing and best-made one. You may have heard the story before, because its subjects were regularly in the news several years ago. They are Linda and Burt, and the "crazy" in the title refers to both of them, in my opinion.
The movie features interviews from Linda and Burt themselves, as well as many of their peers. It moves chronologically through the telling of their relationship, beginning with how Linda and Burt dated until she figured out he was already married. Burt, being completely in love with the girl of his dreams, was determined to get her. He was a lawyer and his story seems like something out of one of the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes I've been watching lately. His other life, his shady lawyer dealings, and the forgery of divorce papers all seem like something I'd watch in a movie. But Burt surpassed the movies and the relatively tame atmosphere of Hitchcockian television when Linda discovered his lies and left him. If you haven't heard their story, I'm not going to ruin it for you.
And, each time I thought the story of crazy couldn't possibly get weirder, it did. The story is so bizarre and the actions of these two people are so beyond what I can comprehend. It's sad, but somehow the fascination drew me in and I couldn't stop watching. And I somehow enjoyed it on top of that.
I liked the way the old videos and photos and interviews are sewn together. While many people claim a documentary is just a bunch of people talking and describing, it's editing, linear storytelling, levels of interest, use of music, and so much more. And Crazy Love is put together in the right way, to tell a crazy story, and make us all feel good about how sane we are.
