Beachy Churchy Weekend

Well, since we were having our last short Friday, some of us from work made a point of going to the beach together on Friday afternoon. We just enjoyed the water, wind, and sun, and several kids went out to boogie board. Some of got some burgers at TK's in Huntington. I tried the mushroom burger, which came with a wheat bun and green peppers on it, and I quite liked it. That evening Ric and I hung out and watched some tv together. We've started going through The Dollhouse because I want to get Ric caught up with it before the new season begins. For those of you who have thought of doing this, stick with it. The first episodes are kind of rough.

Saturday, we slept in a little bit, not too much. I spent a while lounging around the house and catching up with The Road, which I hadn't been reading for a while because I had been reading Amy's copy of A Grace Disguised. But since lately I keep falling asleep while processing the sad thoughts of that book, I thought perhaps a change of material would do me well for a little while. Then Ric and I headed out in search of the Hellman Park trails in Whittier. We must have whizzed past the entrance without even realizing it and spent a while searching before giving up and going back to the Arroyo Pescadero trail. This time, though, we went on the extra Deer Loop, which extended the hike. I liked the loop, but that's probably because it was short and easy! We picked a really hot time of day for it, though, so I was dying for something to drink when we were done. We got some Orange House and came home and relaxed more of the day away. That evening I picked up Ruth and we drove out to see baby Kate's dedication at M&A's church in Fountain Valley. By the time I got back, it was late, but not too late for a movie, so Ric and I went to see a really late showing of District 9.

Sunday we hit up church as always. After visiting another church the day before, it just reminded me of how much I like where we go to church. Not that the other pastor was bad, but I really like mine. Anyway. In our Sunday School we started watching a series of videos by the Mars Hill church in Seattle that cover the topics that are in Song of Songs, called The Peasant Princess. Despite that it looks like a funky church to my old-fashioned eyes, I liked the pastor and the points he was making, and it was nice to hear someone address the text in a more frank manner. From church we headed to the insanity that was Panera and decided to take it home, and relaxed nonstop after that.
