Solar System Weekend
What's up?! How were your weekends? Mine was low-key, but I suppose I was somewhat productive with it.
I forgot to mention that last Thursday night was a screening of Yankee Doodle Dandy at the Fox Theater. As expected, the crowd wasn't that huge. But unexpectedly, the movie was a lot better than the one or two times I might have seen it in my childhood. I'll add it to the review queue. It was fun to hang out with Amy, Brendan, Anthony, Nate, and Laura! For the locals, save the date for next month's Jurassic Park screening, which is on August 13th!
Friday on my short Friday I wasn't sure what to do with myself. I had a lot of work needing to be done because of all the meetings, discussions, and social planning we've been doing around here, so I stayed late a couple of hours to make up for the times I could have been more productive. Then I headed out to the cheap theater to see Earth. That night I stayed at home and caught up with TV and scanned a few photos for the scrapbook we're making for Ric's grandma and grandpa.
Saturday Ric let me sleep in way too late. I spent a long time cleaning and organizing in our bedroom, patching up a chip in our bathroom sink, doing dishes, and backing up files. I started going through my iPod to update file names and remove duplicates. It's so hard to consolidate libraries when you store music in about three different places. I don't want to run an auto-sync, so everything's manual and takes forever. That night we went to Chik-fil-a to eat and support C from our office, who's heading out to Thailand for a missions trip. We came back home and watched a lot of Scrubs together.
Sunday we headed to church and then I spent the afternoon continuing work with my iPod. I put in so many hours on that thing! I finally finished up and got to relax for a while. Then we went out to dinner with my sister at Lucille's, came back to our house to let her meet Ellie, and then went out to see Moon.
Health updates for the week:
Grandma's surgery went well. She came out of it aware and in decent spirits. They did determine that the tumor was malignant, so she will probably only have a few more months to live, but will probably pass easily and without a lot of pain. When they took her to the nursing home, she was very resistant because she doesn't like facilities, so we're praying for her attitude towards them. Over the weekend, she started showing more odd symptoms and they discovered she got a blood clot where the tumor was, so she had another surgery to work on that. How tiring for all of the family! Grandpa seems to be doing okay since his stroke.
My back went through some trauma last week when I took on physical therapy exercises and first-time routines in the fitness center for myself and, as always, overdid it. An aggressive practice hour of bocce ball didn't help! Rest has been important, so I'm trying to get a good amount of it when I can. At least I turned down the kayaking I was asked to go on! This week I've got an appointment with the hip doctor to plead my case. I'm also going in to ask for allergy testing since I never seem to know what's going to set me off with food and skin allergies.
Up this week - family and fun! Today is my one day to go grocery shopping and run errands, because after that, we've got company! Our aunt and uncle and all of their kids and grandkids will be at Disneyland all week, so we're having a family get-together at Downtown Disney on Tuesday. Wednesday I'm taking half the day off to go to lunch and see Harry Potter with a couple girls from work, and then we have a movie night with the Agadonis. Erika's in town too, so I'm anticipating hanging out with her on Thursday or Friday. And Ric's cousin E is coming to stay with us over the weekend. We'll see how much rest I get... I'm guessing not much!
