The Ice Harvest

Every movie in which Oliver Platt is an actor is just that much better of a movie because of his presence. Seriously. In Ice Harvest, he completely steals the show as John Cusak's friend who married Cusak's ex-wife. Together, they share stories and examples of how cold and calculated she is, and it's hilarious (especially when you see how she decorates for Christmas).
Ice Harvest is a dark comedy. I'm not quite sure how so many people aren't able to inform themselves of something like that before spending ten bucks to watch a movie. As we left the theater, so many people were saying, "I thought it was supposed to be a comedy..." Even as dark comedies go, Ice Harvest feels a little more somber, but really is sprinkled with a sense of humor and sometimes grotesquely funny moments.
I enjoyed it. It's good to see Cusak in his element, as well as Platt and Billy Bob Thornton. You don't necessarily need to run out to the theater for this one, but I'd recommend it to someone who can deal with the fact that the characters are all bad people, though some are more likeable than others.

Yeah, noir-comedy might work as a description. Maybe. It's a little hard to categorize. I hope you like it, but yes, I think the dollar theater is a good choice for this one as well as Shopgirl. I haven't seen Zathura yet, but might when it gets to be a dollar. :) Have liked him since "Diggstown"...
Speaking of being plastered... Hey Yo, how's the bus treating you these days?
