business wha??

So we just received a memo from the boss reminding us that the dress code for short Fridays here at the university is "business casual."

Uh... I thought that's what we were Monday-Thurdsay. It's not like we wear suits around the office here. Now I'm wondering if the memo means "Dress the same as the rest of the week," or with the word casual included, "You can relax a little bit." Basically I have no idea what the memo means.

Oh well, it doesn't really affect me since I wear skirts every day anyway.

Wendymaybe it's just a reminder of no jeans... although it seems up to the dept. we were business casual always (at least in my part of acct.), but I loved short fridays because I go to wear jeans.

RicI would interpret that as jeans with a button down shirt and tie. My impression is that maybe they want to tell people to stop wearing Hawaii T-shirts untucked with jeans. But to be honest with you, "business casual" was a concept I never understood because everyone has a different definition of what it means.

JonathanI don't like ties with jeans, but I think a tie can be "replaced" by a sport coat or blazer that goes well with jeans. For a guy.

I always thought Arnie was good at sporting business casual during the recall campaign.

JonathanI just walked by a sign in a pub window stating: "WE NOW ENFORCE A STRICT SMART-CASUAL DRESS CODE ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS AFTER 7PM. NO EXCEPTIONS."

Strict smart-casual?
