Ok, so here is the study guide for my Romans test that is tomorrow, or today, however you view it. Anyways, if you can help me out, please do.
1. How did Schaeffer's Video Series, "How Should We Then Live?" prepare us to study Romans?
2. Each major point in the introductory studies could be the basis for a question. The student should formulate in his mind what he would answer if a question were asked about any of the points; for example, (1) Why is it hard to understand the epistle of Romans? (2) What date hace we assigned for the writing of this letter, and why pick that date? (3) What was the writer's purpose in writing? (4) etc.
3. Always be sure you understand technical terms used in New Testament studies, for such terms often appear in questions. For example: (1) What is "integrity" when that term is applied to NY books? (2) What are "historical allusions"? (3) What is meant when we say a book is "genuine"? (4) "Doxology" (5) "Subscription."
4. What influence did Romans have on history?
5. We spoke of the origin, composition, and history of the church at Rome. What conclusion was reached on each of these three topics, and what bearing does the conclusion have on the doctrine and practice as taught in the NT?
6. Any verses assigned to be memorized are likely to appear on the test. (Romans 1:16-17)
7. Major points of the outline of Romans, coverd on this test, are likely to be asked for.
8. In chaper 1 -- there were special words we stopped to explain. Can you recall what was said about "bondservant," "Gospel," "resurrection of the dead," "call," "spiritual gift," "Greeks and Barbarians," "wise and foolish," "righteousness of God," "wrath," "God gave them up," "ordinance of God," etc.
9. What does chapter 1 imply about the providence of God?
10. Summarize the reason why Gentiles are found guilty before God.
11. What bearing does Romans 1 have on the evolutionary theory of the development of religion upward from polytheism to monotheism?
12. What were the source of men's knowledge of God during the Patriachal age?
13. As on most of my tests, I will ask for completion of verses -- so it would be wise to read the chaper several times to become familiar with the language Paul wrote.
Example: Paul tells us that Jesus "was born _______________ according to the flesh."
Example: The purpose of Paul's apostleship was to bring about the _____________________ among the Gentiles."
Example: Habakkuk 2:4 reads, "The just (righteous) shall live __________________"
So that is it. I am thinking that the study guide will account for at least half the questions on this first test. Probably on the next one it will only be a quarter of them.
