And The Rockets' Red Glare...
It's official. I'm finally adopting the technological marvel that is blogging many years after its initial popularity. Those who know my family will know that I am following in my parents' footsteps, as they just got cable TV one year ago and an answering machine three years ago.
Where to begin? I'm a fourth year medical student at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. The medical school, along with many other edifices at the University bear the name of Roy J. Carver, an entrepeneur from Muscatine, IA. Bored yet?
I'm thinking about a career in emergency medicine and am in the process of completing my applications for residency training. Residency is exactly like Scrubs, ER, Gray's Anatomy, and House all rolled into one 80-hour work week of joy. In actuality, it's the time when young physicians can take the extensive amount of theory they've learned through four years of college and four years of medical school and finally put it into practice.
My big hangup at the moment is writing my personal statement. It's been a few years since I've actually sat down and seriously thought about my goals in life and whether or not they're actually being fulfilled in my personal and/or professional life. The jury is still out on this one...
I worked in the emergency room at University Hospitals this afternoon and evening. Just as I was walking out, the city's fireworks show erupted into its finale, illuminating the night sky around the hospital's gothic tower. Gorgeous...
