(Updated (had a wrong link) noon Saturday)

I'm really enjoying my new mp3 player and recorder. I've become a bit of a podcast junkie, downloading and listening to a bunch of them. This really shouldn't be too suprising as this is my typical response to new technology, and I will probably soon find a few shows that I like, stick with those, and no longer search the web in my spare time for new ones. Here are two that I'm listening too and enjoying. (I should point out, you don't need an mp3 player to listen to these, your computer will play these for you. The mp3 player just lets me listen while I'm doing dishes, picking up the house, etc.)

Not sure how to classify these two. On podcast alley they are in the comedy category. But they're basically people just talking about their lives. The perspectives of each are similar. People raising kids in the suburbs, people who aren't really suburbs people. I imagine Mare and I doing this kind of cast, but with a rural flavor, except I don't think we're as funny as these people. And we'd probably be run out of Adrian. Although I'm not sure how many podcast listeners there are in Adrain.

Anyway, the first is the Croncast. Much talk about being married, raising kids, etc. Part of the fun is laughing at them laughing at each other (kind of like the car talk guys). One of my favorites. They swear a lot, so be aware.

The other is The Bitterest Pill. This guy is a stay at home dad. Last week's show was a birthday show for his son, very cute. Mostly it's his stories about life, kids, etc. Last week he told a story about his daughter and her experience with nursemaid's elbow. Same thing we took Maly to the emergency room with a couple times. (I emailed him, telling him about Maly, that I enjoyed the show, etc. Got a nice reply. That's another cool thing about podcasts.) Anyway, he's fun to listen to, cracks me up.

Those are the two that are closest to general interest. I also subscribe to a science fiction cast, board game cast, poker cast, brewing cast, church cast, tech cast, teacher cast. Whatever you want is out there. There are a number of programs that you can set up to download these casts automaticlly for you. I know half my readers know this, but I want to encourage the other half to enjoy these casts too.

What MP3 player recorder do you have? I'm thinking about buying one that will record so I can do podcasts with it - just wondering which one you have and if the recording quality is any good.

I currently have two podcasts that I do:

I have a cheapie ($90) i-river. So far all I've recorded with it is the kids ( http://matt.brendoman.com/archives/podcast/index.html ). It's a pretty good mic for as tiny as it is, but nowhere near the quality of a real mic I think. Main problem with the kids is they're so loud it's hard to keep the far enough away from it. If my wife and I ever do one, I'll hang it from the light fixture to avoid the banging on the table noises. Quite the studio. I think Adam Curry uses a higher end i-river. What do you use for recording? I've heard of shesaid-hesaid. Was it mentioned on one of the podcasts in my post? I'll give it a listen. Hope that was a little helpful. Matt
