I know that I have a "spirited" son. (Spirited is the way a diplomatic teacher or nurse describes a kid who combines the characteristics of mega-energy and micro-self control.)

But today I have three quickies about this boy.

First, before wrestling practice this week (which he loves), I told him that if he was pulling or pushing on someone when he should be listening to his coach, I was going to signal for him to come sit with me for a while. I just knew that this would happen at least 2 or 3 times during the 2-hour practice. Well, I was wrong. Will didn't get the signal all night. He mostly paid attention for the entire practice. I did catch him watching a swinging whistle instead of his coach a couple times. But how can anyone expect to compete with a swinging whistle? I was very proud of him. And I think he was proud of himself.

Second, while telling this story to his p.e. teacher today, and giving the teacher much of the credit for the above, the teacher told me this about Will. Everyday when class is over, as the kids are lining up and going back to class, Will says, "Ok, coach! See you later coach!" Coach laughed. "Oh, he's a good one."

Finally, this afternoon I get a report on Will from one of the HiStep students that goes into Will's classroom once a month. When Danelle, a high schooler that Will is familiar with, was leaving, Will gave her a big hug and thanked her for coming.

It's nice to be blessed with awesome kids.
