Spiritual Disciplines

At church yesterday Alan preached about spiritual disciplines, prayer and fasting in particular. A few weeks ago I read an article in Discipleship Journal about spiritual disciplines. I decided then that my prayer life was pretty poor (nearly nonexistant) and that it would be a good idea to do something about it. I decided that 15 minutes a morning would be a reachable goal. I did good for a couple days, but then quickly got out of the groove. Alan's sermon gave me a little motivation to get back in the groove. I'm going to do 15 minutes each morning at school. It's suprising how long 15 minutes of prayer can be (and yet 15 minutes of poker goes like that (snap)). I bookmarked the daily My Utmost for His Highest site just in case I need a kickstart, or I start drifting off at minute 8 or 9 (3 or 4). I think this could go a long way in getting my head and heart ready for the day, in being who Christ would have me be during the day, and in showing my students Christ in me (as opposed to my typical impatient, crabby self).

If anyone wants to pray for me on this, I'd take it.

"Alan's sermon gave me . . ." Is there an end to that sentence? . . . chills. . . . herpes. . . . something to feel guilty about.

Well, I saved the entry and went to eat dinner. I didn't realize that meant it would post the dang thing before it was finished. Kid's and their new techno-ology and these internets. Didn't have internets when I was boy. We played in the mud with a stick! And we liked it!!! Argh, grumble, grumble, grumble . . .

If you want to save an entry without posting it, switch the status to draft. Then you can go back and switch the status to publish when you are ready to go.
