That's the day that the United States was transformed into a nightmarish dystopia in which the private health care insurance system is given slightly more stringent regulations and the federal government makes it possible for slightly more people to receive health care. Terrifying.

Seriously, I just can't believe the people who think this is oppressive. It reminds me of Lionel Hutz's horrible fantasy of a world without lawyers:

danI was reading about what the opponents of Medicare said before it was passed. There was some fear-mongering then, too. I don't think it was as bad as now, but they didn't have Fox News stirring things up, either. My hope is that people will see the benefits of these reforms as they have with Medicare and even if they keep complaining about it (as they do with Medicare), they won't want to completely do away with the reforms.
