Bring back the cloth costume
Perhaps the one thing I have NOT liked about Christopher Nolan's Batman movies is the persistence of the suit of armor. It looks heavy and clunky, and is not faithful to the Batman of the comic books, who relies on his speed and skill to protect him--not space-age body armor.
By the most recent film I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that this is the just the way Batman is going to be in the movies from now on, and I even started to wonder if it's a necessity of live action superhero films. Maybe the cloth costume works in comics and animation, but would look to campy in real life, and that's why the directors always go for the hard plastic look.
Not so.
I just saw the fan-made Batman film Dead End:
The story and the dialogue are pretty lame, but Batman's cloth costume looks great. Some of the shots with the heavy shadows cast by overhead lights remind me a bit of Alex Ross's paintings of the character.
If Batman's traditional costume can work this well in a fan film, just think of what Christopher Nolan could do with it.
