Friday Random Ten!
This is more like it! After my little dressing-down last week, iTunes has shaped up and served me some proper tunes. Just for that, I'm doing an extra-enthusiastic commentary on this week's results! (With lots of exclamation points!)
Shambola - Beastie Boys This is an excellent song from that excellent album Ill Communication. You probably wouldn't take me for a Beastie Boys fan, but the instrumentation on this album makes it one of my favorites. Great stuff!
Seven Swans - Sufjan Stevens If you are not listening to Sufjan Stevens, I insist that you start immediately. He may be the most talented musician in popular music today. This song in particular is one of my favorites!
Mighty Little Man - Steve Burns I started listening to Steve Burns (yes, the guy from Blue's Clues) because The Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd helped on the album. Burns' debut album is actually pretty good.
You Shook Me All Night Long - Barney Bentall This is a random song that I downloaded some years ago, although I can't remember why. It's an interesting slow, acoustic version of AC/DC's famous song. It strikes me as both funny and beautiful for some reason. Seriously.
All Neon Like - Björk I haven't had any exclamation points for a while, so here you go: Björk!!! There's not really much else that needs to be said. If you don't listen to her, then you wouldn't understand anyway.
Strangers - Portishead Groovy mellow acid jazz from a genuinely cool group!
Hold Your Head - The Flaming Lips No Random Ten list would be complete without The Flaming Lips. This song gently winds down the chaotic Hit to Death in the Future Head!
L.O.V.E. - Lost & Found Cool music from and indie folk Christian worship band, done in their trademark "speedwood" style!
Outshined - Soundgarden An old school Soundgarden song from their rockingest album: Badmotorfinger!
Fortune Plango Vulnera - Carl Orff (from Carmina Burana) Medieval poetry set to modern classical music! Good stuff!
Thus ends this week's Random Ten! Tune in next week for (hopefully) more great music and no more exclamation points!
