Atrocious News

Filed under: Politics, News — Kyle Email @ 06:53:12 pm

The Independent reports that the United States used chemical weapons during an assault on Falluja last year.

This is the kind of story that is so awful, you absolutely pray it is not true. The Independent at least claims to have verifiable evidence of the claim:

But now new information has surfaced, including hideous photographs and videos and interviews with American soldiers who took part in the Fallujah attack, which provides graphic proof that phosphorus shells were widely deployed in the city as a weapon.

If this evidence exists, I hope that it reveals the truth to the world. I think our initial reaction to this type of story is that it simply can't be true. We like to think that America does not commit such atrocities. However, we know that during the Vietnam War the US used napalm as a weapon against enemies, as well as commit a host of other atrocities against civilians. The sad truth is that we are not only capable of wartime atrocities, but have established a long record of committing them. We tell ourselves we've learned from our mistakes, and that we're a better country now. Our treatment of prisoners and now this story (if true) paint a different picture.

Incidentally, while searching for other information on this story, I found this map that shows nations around the world that have "probable or known involvement in chemical and/or biological weapons." We keep some interesting company.

What would be the implications if everyone around the world found out? I think that a lot of people already think of the USA as tyrannical anyway, but maybe it's Americans who will be enlightened. Some guy called into Rush today going off on the whole torture thing, and Rush says he doesn't think it happens. Um, sure, me either.

I guess when I said "I hope that it reveals the truth to the world" I really meant the United States. I guess I'm still naive and idealistic enough to think that if Americans find out about this they'll condemn. I realize that's asking a lot from some.

White Phosphorous can be used for many things including tactical maneuvers , concealment or distraction. It can also be used to “light the way” as it can put off quite the luminary display. It can also be used to melt the faces of humans while leaving the clothes intact. This fog attaches itself to any flesh and starts a chemical reaction. The flesh just drips off the bones. Please don’t be shocked, we have used depleted uranium for years and no one bats an eye. I feel that D.U. is to blame for me being rated at 80% disabled. I was around weapons caches as a part of my job and I think they knew something and just rated me high to keep me quiet. The Military will get around this topic with saying “White phosphorus is not an offensive weapon”. This is not the first occurrence, nor will it be the last. What about CIA prisons around the globe? We know these things happen yet we maintain composure. We should be flying off the handle when things like this surface. Buddha knows how many news reports don’t get reported. When the big stories float to the top we need to take action. I’m am just tired of atrocity after bloody atrocity being committed, all while I’m sitting on the couch.

I don’t know Kyle. Won’t a blog like this in a red state put you on some sort of list. Don’t name names.

Well, I do think that the Oxycontin did some permanent damage to Rush's brain. It definitely seems that he will contradict just about anyone in order to protect the ruling conservative administration. Now, I'm sure you will say that "he was born with this damage" or something, or maybe I am just more aware of the insanity b/c of friends like you & Erika!
