From the LA Times:

FOX News publicized on the air the address of someone they suspected to be a terrorist. The man had not been charged with any crime, though, and is not wanted by any American law enforcement agency. Nevertheless, FOX labelled this man a terrorist and provided his address to the public, which provoked many viewers to vandalize the home and make verbal threats.

As if this weren't bad enough, it turns out that the man FOX labelled a terrorist doesn't even live at that address anymore. He moved away three years ago. Another unfortunate family has been subjected to the harrassment and vandalism generated by FOX's broadcast.

I don't understand how anybody can regard FOX as a legitimate news organization when they do irresponsible things like this. Even if the house truly were the address of a known terrorist, such behavior would still be inappropriate, which I have yet to see the commentator acknowledge. From the article:

"Loftus [the commentator that revealed the address on air] also apologized and told The Times last week that 'mistakes happen.'...Loftus said he gave out the address to help local police, and insisted that Hilal, a Garden Grove grocery store owner, was a terrorist."

So he's sorry that his lead was incorrect, but he doesn't seem to regret revealing an alleged terrorist's address on the air. There is a reason that real journalists do not give out such personal information about people, guilty or innocent. They understand the harmful effects that such knowledge can produce.

danHelp the local police!? There's your solution to interagency communication problems. Just leak leads to Fox and they'll pass them along to local police.

FoxNews. We report. You vandalize.

DaveYea...I was just going to write about this. Pretty ridiculous. The funny thing is that the vandals couldn't ever spell terrorist correctly.
