The Big Lebowski: the not-so-Collector's Edition
I was excited to see news of a new DVD release of this great film, until I saw what it contains. DVD Times includes a list of standard features
English and French DD5.1 Surround
Spanish DD2.0 Stereo
English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles
Production Notes
plus a few extras:
Introduction by Mortimer Young [presumably the same farcical film historian who introduces the director's cut of Blood Simple]
Jeff Bridges' Photography
Making of The Big Lebowski
Blah. This DVD is only marginally better than the previous, bare-bones release (which at least contained an interview with the Coen Bros). It's pretty clear by now that the directors don't involve themselves much with DVD releases, but one would think they could contribute a little something to a "Collector's Edition" DVD.
Oh, yeah. There is also the "Achiever's Edition" which offers no additional DVD material, but compensates with "The Big Lebowski Bowling Shammy Towel, 4 Collectible Coasters that include photos and quotable lines from the movie, and 8 Exclusive Photo Cards from Jeff Bridges’ personal collection."
So I can get a shammy, some coasters and some photo cards for $30 extra. Thanks, but no thanks.

That DVD is lame. I'll stick with the one I have.
