So Long Floppy

Sony discontinuing production of floppy disks in Japan

I just want to know who these people are that are still using floppy disks and what they are putting on them. Text files? A couple word documents? A picture? I remember when a friend taught me how to make those annoying AOL disks writable. Free floppies for life!

At the college I work at, students come in to challenge out of a particular Computer Applications class (Word, Excel etc.) One of the skills they have to demonstrate to pass is saving a project on to a floppy. The floppy is then kept in their file. Very few of the machines have floppy drives. So I still use floppies, unfortunately.

Our school librarian still gives kids floppies if they have nothing to save their work on--mostly because she doesn't care if the disks never come back.

"what they are putting on them...A picture?"

LOL. I remember way back in 1997 we were using Photoshop to make designs for a swim team t-shirt, and one image file filled up a whole floppy disk.
