I Can't Stop Watching Heroes - Help Me

People are always asking me (well, a couple people have a couple times) why I keep watching Heroes if I hate it so much. I think this article from Topless Robot sums it all up pretty nicely and reminded me of the number one reason why the show sucks now:

Seriously, where the hell is future Hiro? You guys want to save the show, bring on future Hiro. Also, stop sucking. But really, I hope tonight is the series finale. It pains me to say that, but at this point I just want it to be over. That way I can just kind of forget the last 3 years ever happened and hold on to my Season 1 DVD and pretend that was all that happened.

When I look at our TV tastes and opinions, I sometimes wonder if we were separated at birth. But then, we pretty much look like opposites, don't we? ;)

I hung on with this show until last year, I think. The funny thing is I don't actually remember when I stopped watching because the show was that unmemorable. I know I realized I hated all of the characters except for Hiro. That was sometime around when Mohinder got all mutatey and his skin was falling off. Bleh! I seriously loathed them all by the time I stopped watching.

I wish I could have let go, but now I feel like I have to hang on to the bitter end, wherever it takes me. I have no idea why. I've given up on much better shows than this. I think it has something to do with the fact that it does have so much geek appeal and the first season was so amazing. And like the link said, they keep saying they'll change and for some crazy reason I keep believing them. It's sad, I know.

I guess I just don't really understand the people who love season one, and bemoan the rest. . .

I didn't start watching it until later, so I essentially watched Seasons 1-3 or 4 all at once, and really . . . didn't see that much of a drop in quality. I thought it was pretty hoaky from the git-go.

That said, I kind of enjoy the show. I don't expect much of it, it's just indulgent viewing. . . but it's never stopped being fun, for me. (Or ever represented anything more than that. I'd never buy a DVD of any season of it.)

Have not watched much of this season yet, my wife and I will probably catch up one of these days when we have a weekend that isn't busy.

I guess for me it was all about the characters in season 1 and the idea of superheroes in a more real world setting. Cue to season 4 and all those characters I loved in season 1 are either dead or completely different after tons of complete character changes or they lost their powers. And then you have all the characters added on over the seasons, the non-stop parade that further convoluted the story and the show. I guess it was too much to ask to keep a good thing going instead of what they did, which was completely change everything in season 2.
