Yes, a part of me really wanted to see Up tonight but the geek inside of me prevailed and I went with some friends to see Drag Me to Hell and I'm so glad I did. So let's say you're Sam Raimi and people are giving you all kinds of crap after Spiderman 3, saying you've lost it, saying you've sold out, all that crap. What do you do? You make Drag Me To Hell and you prove that you haven't lost a step. I was amazed at the reaction of some of the teenagers in the audience when we were leaving the theater. It became clear to me that they just didn't get it. Well, they can have their Friday the 13th remakes and all that junk. I will take movies like this any day of the week.
It had all the crazy camera angles, jarring sound effects, and even ridiculous gore (surprising amounts for a PG-13 film) that made the Evil Dead series so freaking awesome. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Raimi really pulled out all the stops on this one and I was laughing and screaming like a girl at equal intervals. Yes, I'm sure Up is great but if you're looking for a little bit of sinister in your fun, go see this movie. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy Raimi's older films, you won't regret seeing it.
