Survey: Your FAVORITE Movie

Sorry I've been so silent. I've had finals and my final web design project is due on Tuesday so I've been a little occupied with that. I also went to La Jolla yesterday with some friends and relaxed on the beach all day. On Friday I came up with a post but forgot to actually post it. Curtis and I somehow got talking about Somewhere In Time, which is his favorite movie. For some reason I had always thought he was talking about Time After Time, the one with Jack The Ripper. When Curtis found out I hadn't seen his favorite movie, he insisted we watch it. I made him promise he would watch my favorite movie, which as you all know is Angus. This gave me the idea to ask you, the readers, what your favorite movie is. Now, I don't mean what you think is the best movie ever or something like that. More like your desert island movie. The one you can watch at any given time, the one you never get tired of, the one you are really passionate about regardless of its critical merits or reception. So feel free to comment with yours. If anything, we'll create a great list of movies that maybe you or I haven't seen before.

Not nearly as bad as "favorite song of all time" but close. I am trying to think of a movie from my childhood that would qualify and all I'm really come up with is Home Alone. Yeah, lame, I know. I just remember the day it came out on video (in August, a year and a half after it actually came out in theaters) and my mom actually got it for us at the video store. Yes, back then all movies weren't $20 so it was a big deal that one came out for actual consumers to purchase rather than rent.

The other movie that I actually thought of first was a recent one. No Country for Old Men. I've seen that movie at least 10 times since it came out and 3 times in the theater which I never do. It's a movie I can pick up anywhere and still not stop watching.

Justin, don't feel bad - I love Home Alone, and I've got a friend at work who considers it an all-time favorite too.

I alternate between musical, comedy, and serious. I think I'd have to go with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, for now. Although, I also love a Cohen movie that I've seen many times: Fargo. My random top ten (today) is:

Fargo
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
The Sound of Music
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Airplane!
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Rushmore
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Trainspotting
Pee Wee's Big Adventure

This sounds like I'm an a-hole who picks a foreign film to sound arty, but Seven Samurai is mine. It's so dang entertaining, and at 3.5 hours, if I had to watch something over and over again, I'd have more real estate to enjoy.

I've gotta go with Hoosiers. I loved it because it was a basketball movie when I was a kid, but it really stands up. Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper are amazing, it has a great Jerry Goldsmith score, and really illustrates small town life and their worship (seriously! look for all kinds of religious imagery!) of basketball. I love it.

Seven Samurai, hands down. But if you break it down to categories, favorite comedy would by The Gods Must Be Crazy, favorite Sci-fi would be Star Wars, favorite drama would be the Godfather, favorite romance would be Emma (the one with Gwyneth Paltrow).
