Cool Site of the Day

Back in the day there was a site called my.mp3.com that allowed you to listen to your music library (well, most of it) from any web browser. When mp3.com (the old one, not the new music store that is up now) went under it disappeared as well. Yesterday Allen (ThePrawn) clued me in to lala. It's pretty much the same thing but with even more features and it's a lot easier to add your music library. You can also purchase new music for very cheap in either web only format or actual mp3 download. There's also a social aspect to it as you can follow what others are listening to and even recommend music to your friends to earn song credits which will allow you to add music to your online library for free. The only way I can see this getting better is if they come out with an iPhone app. If you're already on the site you can add me as a friend by going to my profile.

I've been a member for probably 3 years now. They only recently went to this format. It used to be rather cool where you listed actual CD's you owned and then CD's you wanted. For every CD someone requested and you sent (physical CD and cover art was a plus) you would have one sent back to you. I loved this and got a lot of Bonnie Prince Billy/Palace/Palace Brothers music this way. I haven't been on the site really to see the new format. Sounds interesting.

I think they still do the CD trading thing. I like the new features though. It's nice to be able to listen to a lot of new stuff and other stuff I probably wouldn't check out normally. Also, they have a relationship with CD Baby so you can access their entire catalog and there is a lot of good stuff there.

I, too, first signed up back when they were a new, CD trading service -- didn't have much use for them, though, as by that time I was into transitioning away from physical media. When they re-launched in their current state, I was overjoyed. It's perfect. All of my mp3's, available anywhere -- with scrobbling and a just-right social component. (Not too much, but not all alone either). And yes, they do still offer the CD trading -- it's enable/disable-able from within your account settings.
