A couple years ago I was introduced to the wonderful show Dead Like Me. After watching the two seasons I was very excited to hear that a movie was in the works. Then I found out it was delayed and they were having casting and budget issues. Then I completely forgot about it. I was happy to hear late last year that they had finally set a release date but I tempered my expectations because the movie would be missing the amazing Mandy Patankin as well as Laura Harris. I was also bummed to find out that instead of writing Harris' character Daisy Adair out of the movie they would be recasting the role. These doubts were going through my head as I finally got my hands on the DVD this weekend and sat down to watch it.
As much as I tried, I couldn't accept Sarah Wynter as Daisy. I mean, she did a decent enough job, but my brain just couldn't do it. Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond from Lost) was fine as the new Reaper in charge, but I was surprised at how little he was in the movie. The rest of the cast was great and it was awesome just to seem them together again but the whole thing just seemed kind of rushed. I would honestly say that it was better than maybe half the episodes but nothing spectacular, which I guess is what I was expecting from this movie. Perhaps too much time went by. I don't know. The best scenes in the movie were definitely those shared between George and her sister Reggie, something the fans have wanted since the show delivered. Other than that it just seemed like another episode. If that's enough to suit you as a fan, then you'll probably enjoy it. I'm not saying I didn't. It just left me feeling a little sad because I know this really is the end and I wished they had really gone for it. If you haven't watched the show, you really won't be that lost and it will probably get you interested in the show. Just don't expect anything groundbreaking.
