Watchmen Opening Credits Sequence Stuff

Watchmen: Easter Eggs (And Missing Parts) In Watchmen's Titles

The opening shot, with Nite Owl giving a fist full of justice has a big Batman reference. First, check out the posters to the right. Look familiar? And isn't that Mr. and Mrs. Wayne at the back entrance of the opera, being saved from a bloody death? And according to commenter Rainbucket, the opera bills say: "Die Fledermaus" (The Bat). So can we safely come to the conclusion that the original Nite Owl stopped Batman from popping up in their universe?

I think many can agree that one of the most awesome things about Watchmen was the opening credits scene. This article at io9 delves into them a bit more and points out something I sort of clued into but wasn't sure, the opening shot of Nite Owl saving a couple in peril outside a movie theater. I thought it looked awfully familiar. It certainly goes with the whole alternate history that the montage created. I sure would have liked to see that shot of The Comedian raising the flag at Iwo Jima. Hopefully we'll get some more of the goodness on the DVD, which is already looking to be pretty epic. I'm really looking forward to checking out the Tales of the Black Freighter & Under the Hood DVD that is coming out soon.

I just saw this today on Digg. I didn't clue into the Batman aspect at all. I do love it. The one thing a few Digg people brought up was why are there Batman posters in the background? If Nite Owl saves the Waynes then there is seemingly no Batman. Ok, I know they probably did this because it was a much less subtle way of getting this Easter egg in. Still, I didn't notice it and thus didn't see the Batman posters. Just leave out the posters and you can thus not piss off the geeks.
