Last night I went to the True Colors Tour show at the Greek Theater in L.A.. I had never been there before, it's a great venue, but the parking is terrible. They need a shuttle like the Hollywood Bowl has. I decided to not pay for stacked parking (15 freaking dollars) and because of that I had a cool random celebrity sighting.
I was walking up Vermont street to the Greek and I could hear this voice up ahead. I thought to myself, "That sounds a lot like Alan Alda." sure enough, there was Alan Alda, just standing on the sidewalk, talking on his cell phone outside his house. He was talking about acid trips, which was rather strange. I kept walking since I didn't want to look like an asshole, but it was rather amusing.
The concert itself was great. Margaret Cho was the M.C. and she was hilarious. I was bummed Debbie Harry didn't do any Blondie songs (at least ones I knew) but she looked great. The highlights were definitely Cyndi Lauper, Rosie O Donnell's surprise appearance, and Erasure. While I was bummed Cyndi didn't sing "Time After Time," she made up for it by singing "Goonies Are Good Enough." That made my night. At the end of the show all the performers came out and they did Abba's "Take a Chance on Me" and then finished the evening with "True Colors." It was just a great atmosphere, lots of fun. I highly recommend attending a show near you next year since it sounds like they are going to do it again. They raised a ton of money and awareness for the Human Rights Campaign and the Matthew Shepard Foundation, so that is awesome.
