About a Boy

Before you laugh and scroll down to Eric's latest hilarious post, hear me out. I had nothing to do on Saturday afternoon. I was tired, and it was stinking hot. So I went to the movie theater. The only movie that was playing was About a Boy, starring Hugh Grant and directed by Chris and Paul Weitz (American Pie, Antz). I wasn't expecting much. The last Hugh Grant movie I saw was Nine Months. It was kind of funny. I was really surprised by this movie. Hugh Grant's character is kind of like The Dude for the millenium. Or maybe just a hipper, British The Dude. Grant was hilarious, the kid was hilarious, and the script was very witty. The movie was fun to watch and it actually had something to say. It wasn't your standard chick flick. The cinematography was great. The soundtrack was excellent and even had a lesser known U2 song on it (Zoo Station for all those who care) so that gave it points as well. I give it a B+ (seriously).

Before the movie I saw a trailer for Moonlight Mile, starring Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, and Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko). I will see this movie simply because of the fact that Gyllenhaal is in it. He's an incredible actor. But even without him, the movie looks great. I also saw a trailer for Road To Perdition, directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty) and starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Jude Law is another one of my favorites, especially since A.I., and you can't go wrong with Mendes and Hanks, so I will see this one too. All I can say about the stinking NBA Finals is go Nets. I think the Lakers are underestimating them big time. But I'm living in a dream world, so who knows what will happen. Keep on smilin'......
