It is things like this that make be embarassed to callmyself a Christian:

  • No Way: A seminary President attacks End of the Spear and the decision to cast a gay man as the lead character. This quote was classy:

Granted, we must not overreact. And it would probably be an overreaction to firebomb these men's houses.

Just probably though. I mean, we really would not want to get rid of any options...

Read through the comments too. It gets interesting.

  • Just in case you forget to appropriately submit: If you forget, you can always get yourself a t-shirt to remind you:

  • And just for good measure, even though it doesn't really fit here.

Via the revolution will not be televised...:

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert said something pretty poignant. He was talking about Kanye West's cover of Rolling Stone where he was dressed like Jesus. (See the cover here). He said something to the effect of, "What can be more offensive to Christians than a rap star on the cover of a magazine dressed like Jesus?" A caption came on the screen asking, "Maybe Darfur?"

Should wives love their husbands?

Ephesians 5:25-33 (New International Version)

25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— 30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."[c] 32This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

I don't see anything here about wives loving their husbands. ;)

I love (sic) strict literalism.

It's a good thing we have people like Honzo who will recognize a difference of interpretation. I wouldn't have thought to check if there was another interpretation.

Also noted on the t-shirt is the presence of "..." x 3. Reminds me of the part in the Bible where "Jesus... giant.. as large as... mountain... glowing... green.. eyes... like a fire... Chill... with... monkeys... teach how to... make furniture"(why even bother citing x:abc - def)

The t-shirt looks like a Biblical madlib. :P

I think the problem with the shirt is its selective quoting. Just look at all the ellipses.

The part of the passage that most people forget (but you included, Honzo), is "In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies." In fact, most of the passage is a command for husbands to be servants of their wives. But that's not what is emphasized in our church. We get the "wives submit to your husbands" line and forget the rest.

I see Mike already covered the ellipses before I finished my comment. And he was much more clever about it.

I instantly thought of Dave when I saw the Colbert Report.
