Band 101- Just Do it.
This really should have been my first Band 101 post, but only recently a problem has come to my attention. The problem is that musicians, and artists in general, are often perfectionists. I've learned this from countless talented artists and musicians who haven't put their work out yet because it's "not ready." As a result, there are many musicians, bands, and artists that have never been exposed to the public. These talented people are denying themselves the chance to express themselves and utilize their talents because they aren't "ready."
Rather than cloister your talents, I think you should just use your talents now. If you wait for everything to be perfect, it will never happen. Your art will remain unmade, your band will remain unknown, and your songs will remain unheard. Book a coffee shop show, ask your friends to join a band with you, put your art on display at your office. Whatever it is that you do, get it out of you before it's too late!
Now, let me clarify one thing: I believe strongly in practicing regularly and often. I'm not saying that every person with a guitar should be performing at a music festival. However, performing live is one of the best ways to improve skills and band report. Maybe start small, but get out and do something now!
I hope my talented friends who haven't used their talents the way they could read this blog, because the world could use some more talented artists, bands, songwriters, etc.
Humans: Get out there and create!
Brax.
