Blog Hits
By Andrew on Nov 22, 2005 | In General | 1 feedback »
I don't know if I'm reading this right, but looking at my blog stats, it seems that I usually get anywhere from 10 to 100 hits per day. I can't believe I get that many, considering I haven't really let many of my friends and family know that I have this yet.
But on November 20th, the hits spiked to 496. It seems that 457 of those were from direct access hits, meaning my blog was accessed 457 times by people (or the same, nefarious person?) typing in the url or clicking on a bookmark for my page.
Other brendo users, am I reading this right?

Yeah, you're basically right. If you go the summary tab on the stats page you can how everything breaks down. When a hit is logged it's checked to see whether it's a referral, from a search, Direct access or from an indexing or syndicating bot. There are signatures that b2evolution looks for. If a new bot comes through that doesn't match any of the existing signatures, then those hits would probably be labeled as direct accesses. I'm kind of guessing at some of this, but I think that's how it works. The new release of b2evolution, which is in final pre-release testing now, will add pretty charts to the stats page.
