This is a pretty fun way to kill some time. It's a bit like Sonic the Hedgehog in that you can run really fast and do crazy jumps and such. You can also slide into your enemies to kill them. I think it's still a demo version, but it's pretty fun as it is.
I thought I felt myself coming down with a slight cold throughout the week last week, and I was right! It hit on Saturday, but I worked through it and had a fun weekend anyway, then called in sick and slept off most of yesterday.
Friday Ric actually got off of work early, so we headed out to Disneyland. We ate at Downtown Disney before going into the park, and let me just say thanks to the guys at the pizza place over there, who gave me my dinner for free when I realized that I didn't have enough money on me and Ric was busy ordering at another restaurant. I finally got to shoot those rifles at the little shooting range in Frontierland, which I always wanted to do. Unfortunately with my weird eyesight and contacts, it was all pretty blurry, so I'm not likely to become a sniper any time soon. We hit up the Haunted Mansion for the first time since I don't remember when, since in the past I always tried to visit the park when the mansion was decorated for Nightmare (yes, I quoted the movie in this sentence). It was fun to see "classic" haunted mansion. A few rides and a Dole whip later, we headed home and relaxed.
Saturday, I slept in, woke up with a big sore throat, got ready, and headed over to do laundry at the parents' place (now looking even worse with my dad's continued paint job). After an afternoon there, I headed out to see the spring play with Ric. The play was a lot of fun! Our favorite performances came from the people we knew, not just because we knew them, but because they had the best lines and gave the best efforts. This is the funniest we've ever seen Ric's mom, and Todd's clueless faces were priceless. Ryan was awesome as well, especially with the "you're thinking of Februrary" line. After the show, we went home and watched Die Hard. More on that later.
Sunday, we decided to have fellowship with the Andersons rather than attend a ceremony in a tent on a hot morning, so we met up at Mimi's for breakfast. After that, we happened to stop by Game Stop to ask if they had Wiis in stock, and they said the La Mirada one had plenty, so before we knew it, my sister and I were buying a system so we can now keep ourselves entertained while hanging out at our parents' place on the weekends. I already downloaded classic Super Mario Bros. and am surprised at how many hidden details I can remember, especially where there are free lives. Jenny and I had just enough time to make our own Miis and play a game before we headed out to L.A. We went shopping at the Beverly Center and The Grove, had a quick bite at the Farmer's Market, and headed to the Henry Fonda to see Travis. More on that later!
With all of that and Ric's brother Jon's family visiting yesterday and today, it's been pretty busy! I've had a fun few days. Last night, watching Jon and Angie play on the Wii was hilarious. I just want to get video of Angie playing the boxing game. She's too much!
It's May 1st already. Summer is almost here. Crazy. I got some good news today. My unofficial CBEST scores were emailed to me last night and I passed with flying colors. Of course, I did much better in verbal than in math, but that was to be expected. My official scores won't get mailed out for another week, and then I can apply at the school district. The last major hurdle for me will be making it through the summer. Hopefully I'll start getting unemployment checks soon. I had my interview yesterday and I'm still not sure how well it went. I'm also doing some random odd jobs and if it comes down to it I'll do some temp work.
On the music side of things, Phil and I met Justin at Detroit Bar last night and saw Matt Death & The New Intellectuals and Deep Sea Diver. I really enjoyed both bands. Matt Death still has the classic Havalina sound, playing some songs from their last album which was never released. Watching Matt up there wailing on his guitar brought back memories of me tagging along with Phil to countless numbers of their shows when he was Matt's intern. I thought Phil was the coolest guy in the world because he worked for a band and could get us into shows for free. Man, those were good times.
Matt's wife Judita played a solo acoustic set, which I wasn't expecting. You Guitar Hero folks would know Judita better as Judy Nails. She has a great voice. Her band, the Halo Friendlies, are on a hiatus and she now has a new project, Scouts of St. Sebastian, which sounds really good. We didn't stay for all of Deep Sea Diver's set since Phil had to go home, but I really dug what I heard. Girls with guitars are pretty high up in my book. I'll definitely be checking them out again on the 9th at Plush in Fullerton.
Watching this movie here reminded me of a video game that is probably the most famous vaporware ever. Duke Nukem Forever. Was I the only one who thought that? Probably.
