As you may or probably don't know, Kelly is the Truman State Alumni Colorado Chapter president. I am her humble servant - secretary and webmaster (I'm playing loose with the title webmaster here). Mostly I feed Kelly grapes and fan her with palm fronds, but that's off topic.
The Colorado alumni chapter is going to see the Denver Nuggets play the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, March 17 at the Denver Pepsi Center. If there are any Truman alumni who read this and want to attend, leave a comment in this thread. Be sure to include your email in the appropriate field - It isn't published, but I can see it from the blog back office. Tickets are $15 apiece. Bring a friend and or family.
Hey, even if your not an alumni, and I know you (or your mom), drop a line and maybe we could make it happen.
After hearing my friend Jon rant about the early DST change causing major problems for his servers at work, I couldn't help but be amused that this was like the Y2K bug but it actually happened. Lots of stuff stopped working. And wasn't this whole thing done to reduce energy costs? Anyone seen the gas prices this week? WTF? If this keeps up, I really am going to have to increase my efforts to find a new job closer to home. On another note, it's really freaking hot here. The OC wildfires are about 15 miles away from where I live. They seem to be spreading quite rapidly. Crazy.
Here we are at Monday again! Well, despite the obvious that it started out as a rough weekend (seeing that I didn't go to Rodney's star ceremony because of that wonderful doctor's appointment), I had a lot of fun.
Friday night, we went out to eat with my family at De Luca's. I can't have a birthday without having an Italian meal. After dinner, we went to my parents' place and saw the disaster that is my 77-year-old dad's attempt at painting the outside of our house. He has started the job a few times and keeps injuring his foot. I'm kind of glad for the down-time, so we can encourage him NOT to resume the job because it looks terrible! We all had cake and I got to open a lot of cool gifts, including cash, a Cure CD, Gilligan's Island Season 2, vinyl classical albums, a couple of books, and a cute shirt. Afterwards, Ric and I went home and I pretty much crashed after we watched an episode of Arrested Development. I've been really tired lately.
Saturday I slept in (as long as Pip would let me, which was 10am), did laundry at the parents' place, went out to eat at the Elephant Bar with Ric, and then we went to see 300. It was nice to have a date night with each other. We've been so busy lately that we haven't gone out and hung out with just each other, so I had a good time.
Sunday after church I watched Silver City and then crashed again for a few hours. Got up to go out to eat with a good, small bunch of friends. We had a yummy meal at the Olde Ship. It was awesome to hang out with the friends, whom I feel like I see less and less these days, which has been depressing me lately, and having this meal with them was just what I needed. I also discovered that I like pear cider. After the meal we headed home, and I read about a page before falling asleep again, at only 10pm. I don't know what's wrong with me.
Anyway, another busy night tonight - we're going to another Kings game!
Saturday night was a blast. Kevin's house was awesome. There was lots of good food and beverage and Jen was a fantastic hostess. I split my time between hanging out with folks at the bar and playing at the table. I won two hands the entire night, but they were big enough to allow me to walk away from the game with some cash for the first time. The first hand I won was on a full house, but I didn't get a lot of money since most folks knew someone had a boat from the flop.
The second win was HUGE, the biggest pot of the night. I had an ace and two of spades and got the flush on the flop. I played pretty tight though since I wanted to get as many players as possible. On the turn it was down to me and one guy and I went all in, jacking up the pot another hundred bucks or so. Since there was no chance of quads or a boat on the board, I knew I had a pretty much unbeatable hand, but I was still nervous as hell. He ended up having a small straight and I took about $600. It was awesome. I ended up putting half of that away and playing with the rest for another few hours. Things got really crazy later on, lots of money changing hands, so I'm glad I put some of my chips away. I had a blast and walked away with some money, so it was definitely a great night.
