Lately, I have been very into baking. I have been feeding this new interest by watching countless hours of the Food Network, reading cookbooks at Borders, and reading The Cake Bible by Rose Levy Berenbaum, which I received for Christmas. That book is amazing and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning why their cake recipes work, and if they don't work, how to make them work. Every recipe comes with an "understanding" section, giving facts as to what makes the recipe work.
For Christmas, Lucas gave some some Belgian baking chocolate from a store in Boulder.
I will post pictures later, but right now our photo sharing site is down for maintenance. With this chocolate, I have been experimenting making chocolate truffles. So delicious! I first tried creme de menthe truffles with a semisweet chocolate. Mmmmmmm. Then, last weekend I took a truffle making class at a cooking school here in Denver called The Seasoned Chef. We learned lots of chocolate making techniques, including how to temper chocolate and some secrets to handmade truffles.
So, now that I am armed with new recipes and fancy choclate, we are going to be feasting on truffles around here! Don't be surprised if Lucas and I have doubled in size next time you see us....Many of the truffle recipes call for a liquor flavoring (amaretto, creme de menthe, etc.). So in addition to adding chocolate to our cabinets, we have also tripled our booze collection in a matter of weeks.
Off to eat some chocolate...

According to this, there are some issues:
Apple Computer is warning customers who use the Windows version of its iTunes software to hold off upgrading to Windows Vista until it can release a patch to fix a number of serious compatibility issues, one of which could result in a corrupt iPod player.
I know a lot of readers have iPods (I don't at the moment, mine died awhile back) so I thought I would share. I'm holding off on the upgrade for now for other reasons. First, I remember all the compatibility issues I had with XP when it first came out, and I don't feel like going through that again right now. Also, I'm still thinking about getting a MacBook but that got put on hold for the moment because my programming classes require Visual Studio. I'm looking into things like Bootcamp and such. If anyone has any feedback on that, let me know.
