Huffington Post

I don't make it a habit to read political blogs, but I do check in with the Huffington Post somewhat regularly. And, I have to say that the people that leave comments on that site are some kind of hateful. Take for instance this comment thread about an argument between the lone conservative on The View and guest Sandra Bernhard.

Here is a sample:

People only need to look at Hasselback to understand how dimwitted Republicans are.

It will be interesting to see how Rosie shuts Elizabitch up.

Elizabeth is perfectly representative of a stupid Republican bitch

What has Laura Bush done for childhood education other than teaching little George W. how to read "My Pet Goat"?

...and those are only from the first 6 comments. The comments on the blog are routinely this negative, but really, we're talking about The View here. Does it really necessitate such hostility?

Request: Does anyone know of a conservative blog with a readership comparable to the Huffington Post? I know there's the Drudge Report, but I'm looking for something more bloggy, with comments.

Tomorrow + me = rock Omaha. (Kelly's already there).

Hangin'

Hey there. Just hanging out at home right now. The cat is sitting on my chest (which I've found pretty much functions as a shelf these days) while I check the blogs and mess around online. So here are the oh-so-exciting details of this week...

I haven't been up to much lately, besides watching the World Cup. I TiVo all the games while I work and come home to watch them. I'd say I have probably watched the majority of the games, although I watch at least one a day on fast-play to cut my time in half. Before the tournament is over, I really want to see one of the games at the Egyptian. They're playing almost the entire World Cup at their theatre, along with serving breakfast! Sounds like fun.

We hung out with the Neals last night and watched Crash. Wendy is ready to burst. But then, if you've seen her blog today, you'd know that from the photo.

We had an all-staff training day today. Our President cracks me up. I will miss his sense of humor when he retires next year (he announced it, by the way). We had training on Ethics in the workplace today. I was disappointed with how we only scratched the surface of the issues we face here. It may be a Christian university, but plenty of people are faced with ethical dilemmas daily. Our own office has faced some drama lately, and so it was sad to see that the most important dilemma we faced today was discussing undocumented overtime hours.

After the presentation we all had lunch in the Cafe and then went out to play for short Friday. Ric wants to see all the movies I want to see right now, so I couldn't see anything this afternoon. I settled with a trip to Payless (nothing good), Walmart (new cat toys), Washington Mutual (money), and Michael's (bought ribbon for a decorating idea for framing posters in my office).

I got home and was totally ready to scan in those Disneyland photos Brendan's been wanting, only to find that the plug for the laptop was missing. Boooo! I settled with sitting down and going through the mess of stuff under our coffee table (all wedding/honeymoon related stuff). I found all of the photos from the disposable candles from the reception; now I need to buy an album and save the good photos. I found all of the photos from my bridal shower, our co-ed shower, and Ric's family's "groomal bath". And, of course, the unfinished honeymoon album. I got about 1/3 through the photos before I ran out of sheets to put the photos on, and haven't worked on it since! So today I set about reorganizing the stuff, making sure it's all in order, and I bought some more sheets for the album.

Unfortunately, I've found that unless I do this work at a table, I won't be able to continue working on this album because Pip is too interested in everything. He bites on the sheet holders, the sheets, the stamps, and the photo envelopes. He slips and slides on the plastic sheet holders, spilling them all over the place. He also keeps thinking I'm playing with him when I try to make him go away. Oh, and when he finally went away, he went and attacked the dried roses Ric gave me when we got engaged. GRRRR! Right now he looks so cute because he's sleeping, but at the time I could have smacked him. Anyway, we actually don't have any tables in our house, so I'm not sure when I'll get to work on the album again unless I shut Pip away, in which case he'd meow forever.

At work we're in the process of discussing creation of onlne registration for the adult degree completionprogram, for which I coordinate registration. We have met for at least 6 hours' worth of discussion so far, and I'm less and less convinced it's something we should be spending our time on. About 50% of the add/drops will still need to happen manually instead of on the web because of the oddities of our program, so is WebReg really worth changing to? All of the staff involved with our program are nervous about the idea, but I guess someone in charge thought it would alleviate our manual work and make us free to work more on other programs, so they mandated the change. Realistically, no work will be alleviated - it will just look a bit different. And I'm not too keen on becoming the tech support help-line person for web registration. Anyway, every time Ruth and I have to go to these meetings, we just get headaches.

The back is doing so-so right now. The weekend camping trip actually helped a lot because I didn't have to sit at a desk or do hard exercise, but now that we're back in the swing of things, I'm starting to have some days that are hard to get through. I identify with Wendy when she says sometimes she goes to stand up and isn't sure if her back will support her. Anyway, it's not THAT bad this week. I'm scheduled on 6/26 to have another epidural. Hopefully I'll be completely healthy (I've had a small cold this week) so we can go through with it.

Well that's all the boring stuff I can think of to make a blog post right now. I think we might go see a movie tonight. Actually, dinner sounds good right about now...

Settling In

Holy crap, am I tired. I have to get up early tomorrow to pick my brother and his girlfriend up at the airport and then we are going to Disneyland. I'm super stoked about that though because I haven't seen my brother in over a year. Since this is my birthday weekend I took Friday through Sunday off. So that should be fun. We're finally getting unpacked and stuff at the apartment. We got our power on Tuesday and today we got internet. I'm not using it yet though. Our LAN isn't set up yet and I don't know the WEP key for the wireless. Not to mention I just now finished building the desk I bought at Ikea on Monday. So I've been busy, to say the least. Hopefully things will calm down a bit next week and I will get my room set up exactly how I want it. If anyone in the area wants to hang out for my birthday on either Saturday or Sunday night, let me know!
