Yes, Nate, the discussion in the movies folder got me to add a few animated movies to my queue, and I'm really glad I did! I think I probably would have watched Watership Down as a child, even though many people would think that most kids couldn't handle some of the darker images of blood and death it has.
The movie follows a small group of rabbits as they escape their warren when one of them senses impending danger. They must search for a new place to live that is uninhabited and suitable for their group, and they must also fend for themselves against humans, hunters, and other, less friendly rabbits. They also have to find females to join them in their new life and home. Along the way, they befriend a wayward seagull who completely cracked me up.
I am a complete sucker for this type of movie. Its imagery moves from the interestingly designed beginning (in which the origins of rabbits are told) to beautifully painted landscapes to horrific images of dying rabbits to dream/vision sequences. The art is all over the place, but it is always very effective. It didn't matter to me that this was a cartoon and was about rabbits. It's a better movie than most I've seen this year.
I'm looking forward to a couple more animated movies in my queue, which I'll hopefully get a chance to see soon.
Good news, The Rentals are getting back together! A new album seems likely in 2007 and they are doing a bit of touring. Yippee!
I am Hungry. I feel like eating everything forever. It has been a long time since I have really felt this way, but I am really hungry.
