Contact High Redux

Almost two weeks ago I wrote about the 4/20 "get together" on Farrand Field at CU. As it would happen, CU did, in fact, have video surveillance. And they are using said video to try and catch the evildoers by taking frames from the video and posting them on CU's website. If you know any of these people, you too could receive a $50 reward. Just don't plan on scoring any weed off of someone you turn in.

Full Video of Colbert at Correspondents Dinner

Thank You Stephen Colbert.

This site has YouTube links to the whole thing. Check it out if you haven't yet.

If you're lazy:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

I would put up the actual videos, but YouTube has been really overloaded lately and it slows down our page pretty badly.

May Day

Holy cow where has all the time gone? I've been back in the States for over a year now and most of the time I feel just as lost as the day I got off the plane. I'm working afternoons this week so hopefully I will actually have my Lead interview sometime soon. Here's hoping....

Eight Below

Dollared this one. When I gave a look to a loud guy, he waved smugly at me, so I couldn't resist telling him to shut up. I swear I really am working on not confronting people so much at movie theatres, but sometimes they just ask for it!

When I saw the trailers for Eight Below, I thought it looked a lot like the type of Disney movies I might have watched as a child of the 80s. Animals making long journeys and surviving on their own, and good old-fashioned plots that give us zero cursing and zero lewdness in its human characters. But when I heard that Paul Walker and Jason Biggs were involved, I started to worry that it was going to be something more like Snow Dogs.

Fortunately, this really does harken back to the simpler, more enjoyable days of good clean entertainment. The story revolves around Jerry, a dog sled guide in the Antarctic, and his dogs. When circumstances force Jerry's Antarctic team to evacuate the dogs, we watch as he tries to get back to them, and the dogs struggle to survive the Antarctic winter on their own.

With the exception of a little bit too much hokeyness on the part of Jason Biggs, the movie actually works. It's slightly longer than it needs to be, and I often wished the focus were even more on the dogs because of how fascinating it is to watch the ability of animals to survive extreme circumstances, but was still very inviting. Actually, I really fell for the dogs in this movie. I think lonely or hurting dogs make some of the most pitiful noises in the animal kingdom, and as the members of the team of dogs face troubles, I couldn't help feeling incredibly sorry for them.

Don't let people make fun of the Walker factor in this movie. It doesn't exist. He does a fine job. And the movie itself is definitely worth at least a dollar viewing. Good for the fam!

I'm at work today...

..because I'm a legal citizen of 50%-ish mexican heritage.
..for all the international students I've known who attempted citizenship the legal way and succeeded through hard work and patience.
..because my sister couldn't get a job last year because many illegal immigrants were willing to work for less money.
..because traffic was incredibly light and polite this morning!
..for the friends I know who were sent back to their countries because they did things legally and didn't get their visas.
..because people who have jobs should show up to them or give notification for absences.

I'm not saying everyone should be kicked out, but I believe in finding a resolution that rewards those who do things legally and responsibly, however big of a program it may be necessary to create. And I don't believe in skipping out on work without letting them know you won't be there.

I prefer jokes over debates in the comments... :)

Quick post

I've been busy lately and haven't had time to write anything. Hopefully I'll have more time soon.

In the meantime, do yourself a favor and watch Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. My favorite moment: When he welcomed New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin to Washington D.C., "the Chocolate City with a marshmallow center."

I'm super cereal...

Last week's South Park was funny. I'm sinking further into my WoW addiction. But I'm maintaing a healthy social life to counterbalance it. I played Frisbee Golf today with some people and after work I went out to eat with folks. So it's not that bad. Yet.
