TV Guide

So, Lucas tells me I haven't posted anything on our blog in about a month. I suppose I could attribute that to all the awesome events I've attended, the mountains I've climbed, and the novels I've written; but that would be a fat lie. In reality, I can attribute my lack of posts to my daily routine: go to work, go to yoga, shower, make dinner, watch our nightly TV show line-up. In order to update our blog, I would have to eliminate something terribly important, like CSI or, worse, 24. In the interest of having something to write about, quickly, I give you:

What We Watch on TV

  1. Monday: Prison Break, followed by 24. Watching these shows creates as much stress as having a day full of IEP meetings for me. A more intense night, I can't imagine.
  2. Tuesday: NCIS.
  3. Wednesday: Um...although I don't like to admit it, I watch America's Next Top Model. I think it is hilarious. To get my self-respect back, however, I follow it up with Lost. Recently we had to add The Amazing Race to our Wednesday line-up because it moved from Tuesdays.
  4. Thursday: Survivor. CSI.

Ok. Yes, it seems that we watch a lot of TV. And we do. But, we don't have cable--think how bad it would be then! Also, in an attempt to justify all this TV watching (mostly to myself...): we don't usually watch TV Friday-Sunday, unless it's a movie. We do other stuff. Like, cook. Build headboards. Yoga. Read. Homework (for Lucas). Well-rounded all around =]

That's it! Update over!

Reason to be excited...

Since we are currently living in Denver, I wanted to make it out to Red Rocks to see a concert. We came here at the end of summer last year, so concerts were winding down. The Dave Matthews Band was there for four nights in a row and the White Stripes came too, but we didn't make it out there. But have no fear! One of the bands on my "Top 5 Bands I Want to See Live" list is coming to Red Rocks. Kelly and I got tickets to got see The Flaming Lips in July. Woo hoo! Ween is playing with them, and it seems to me that Ween might have a big following out here.

Only one thing could make me more excited: I saw that The Flaming Lips are playing with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks in Bend, Oregon in June. I would gladly swap Malkmus for Ween at Red Rocks.

That is the end of an update for the sake of an update.

Thank You For Smoking

What a breath of fresh air (no pun intended)! I can't believe I've only seen about two movies that have been released in 2006. This is a sad year for movies, so seeing something like this one - one with many laughs, a quickly paced script, and lots of fun actors - is so refreshing.

Yes, Paul, we'll still see it with you if you want. Ric was a little desperate to get out of the house and into a theatre, and everything else sucks!

I think one of my favorite quotes is, "That sand isn't going to rake itself!" That Brody guy is pretty annoyingly funny. I liked it when he was on the Gilmore Girls and wish he and Lane would've ended up getting engaged instead of what's-his-face (Whoops, now you all know I watch a girlie show. I also watch Desperate Houswives, which is kind of lame but kills time while I put away laundry, and Grey's Anatomy, which I like).

Anyway, about the movie. It follows a tobacco lobbyist through his job, showing what his job is like, what his life is like as he shows his son what he does for a living, and how people respond to what he does for a living. Aaron Eckhart has always been a favorite of mine since I saw him in In the Company of Men. He was perfect for the role, and it was great to see him as the lead of a movie on such a big level.

Fun times. Apparently some guy sitting next to my sister in the theatre was taking notes the entire time and then cornered Ric after the movie to let him know how great it was and how it would be nominated for an Oscar for screenplay. What a freaky little man.

In the Business of Saving Lives...

Last night Ruth passed out at work out for the second time.

We were in the fitness center and if it had been one minute earlier, I might not have witnessed it, since I was working on a machine that faced away from her. But thankfully I was done and checking to see if she was read yto go, and she said she wasn't feeling well while she was leaning on a machine. The next thing I know she started going out like the last time, and I was shaking her and calling her name. She would come back into consciousness, look at me, and go right back out again. After a couple of minutes it didn't seem like she was going to revive, so I called some random guy to get the fitness center people to call the campus doctor. Some guys helped get her on a bench, and she finally woke up as they were pulling her away from the workout machine. She felt fine after that, but the health center doctor and nurse did a thorough job of checking up on her.

It turns out her blood pressure was extremely low. Although she hadn't eaten much in the day, her blood sugar count was doing fine. They said it was a fainting spell without an explanation, so they told her to go to the emergency room. They released her to my care (I'm special!) and I drove her to the ER at St. Jude's.

Of course, as soon as we walked in, we saw one of the saddest scenes happening. A father was forcing his son into the ER saying that he was huffing something in the parking lot at Target and that his friend was on meth, so he wanted to have his son tested. The son was about 15, scrawny, and such a normal looking kid, but he was in a rage and was trying to beat his father up. They had to pin him down on the floor with his hands behind his back and threaten to call the police. Then a nice nurse started speaking to him calmly and got him to realize they were there to help him, and soon the poor kid was crying uncontrollably. It was so sad to see. I saw the father looking around after a while to see if people were watching them, and since the room was packed with people, everyone definitely was watching. It all quieted down quickly though, and they went into another room.

I left Ruth in the care of Gron and got home around 2 hours after her fainting spell. She is SO not allowed to do that to me again. She's going to the doctor today for tests, and hopefully all will be well.

Happy Belated Birthday

As proof to how lax I've gotten about this blog, I missed our fourth birthday yesterday. I feel like a deadbeat dad. Anyway, it's hard to believe that it was four years ago when I turned my crappy Tripod site into a blog by posting this. So how about we all take a few moments and relive some of those memories, minus Gringo's posts which mysteriously disappeared.

Bed, Bed, Bed

I got home at about 2:20 AM last night from my closing shift at the park to find that my sheets and stuff weren't on the couch. Instead there was a note from Grace telling me to go upstairs and check out my new bed. Jon and Grace, who have been so generous to allow me to be their "Guy on the Couch", decided while I was gone to put the bed back into their spare room. I feel very loved right now. Hopefully I can repay them by getting my promotion at Disneyland soon and getting my own place again. So that is my exciting news for the day. I am still in lazy vacation recovery mode, so I'm finding it hard to gather the inspiration or desire to post. Hang in there and I'll try and get things up to snuff around here.
