Yesterday I had almost zero to do at work. I was going out of my mind, so the only thing I had to look forward to was the noon conceert. This week it was this guy.
Featuring four musicians, the ones who actually stood out were his bassist and saxophonist. They knew how to rock. And maybe it's just my personal taste in music speaking here, but they knew how to rock but were limited to some pretty boring music.
This is the kind of jazz I think about when I think about outdoor music at cafes and music I'd hear in my dentist's office: background music. Music made for the Wave. Not music I would go to a concert to see. I can't stand it. No melody - just a particular phrase that gets repeated in different ways over and over again. Then each musician takes their turn in EACH song, showing how great they are, and we all have to clap. I'm sorry, but I don't clap for classical pianists when they complete a difficult pass in a Rachmaninoff piece, so why do we have to do that for another genre?
Anyway, they were very good musicians, but I think I just realized that I don't really like that style of jazz. I just wanted to leave the whole time. Give me the blues any day.
"And if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of. ... I don't know of anybody in my administration who leaked classified information. If somebody did leak classified information, I'd like to know it, and we'll take the appropriate action." -- George W. Bush
It's been a while since we've heard anything new about the leak of the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame. I know this is about four or five scandals ago, and the public has lost interest, but it sounds like there are some new developments that may grab some people's attention.
