Flash Game of the Day

Escape the Boogeyman

This is a tie in for that crappy looking movie, Boogeyman. The game itself is pretty simple, but it's super hard and scary. Great graphics for a flash game.

Chester of the Year

Holy cow, brendoman.com is three years old. To honor this momentous occassion, we decided to make the site hard to get to and the servers keep changing from one to another. Not really, but we are naming our third annual Chester of the Year. Congratulations to Sleepless Nights on this prestigious honor. Brandon and Justin really do deserve kudos on curing our boredom for the past year or so. If you haven't checked out the site, you really are missing out. It's definitely the most chester-worthy website I've ever seen.

On that note, thanks to all the brendoman.com crew for making this the best year yet on the web for us. Our numbers have greatly increased in the last twelve months as well as the sense of community we have going here. Kudos to all of you. And we'd also like to thank you, the reader, for being along for the ride. Finally, even though he didn't win, I'd like to name Danny an honorable Chester of the Year for all his contributions to the site, both behind the scenes and on the blog. Here's to another great year!

What The?

Here is a poge out of Dave's book. What the? Its about Jermaine O'Neal saying that putting an age limit on the NBA draft is racist? I think it is stupid. But then again I could be wrong. So here is the article, tell me what you think.

Cosmic Encounter

Had an all man game night last week. Five of us, Collin, Casey, David, Danny, and myself broke out the Cosmic Encounter for an intergalactic free for all. Cosmic Encounter is a crazy game; the rules are pretty simple-- card driven warfare with a bit of negotiation. But because of the many different alien races, each with a different alien power (way to break the rules), its fun to see the way the different races interact.

Anyway, I played Filch which allowed me to take used cards out of the discard pile. Not a great power, but for some reason I was able to start out strong. I was winning battles, keeping my fleets out of the warp. Everyone else was losing and going to the warp. Things were looking good for me. Then everyone else realized that I was looking strong. They wouldnt let me in on their attacks and began to gang up on me. Soon I was in as bad shape as everyone else. Casey, playing Megalon (or something like that), was sitting pretty, and could have teamed up for a shared victory a number of times. But he refused, looking to take it alone.

I really should write these sooner after the game takes place, as I cant remember who won. I know I didnt. Probably the winner will comment, claiming victory. At any rate, it was a good night. I look forward to doing it again real soon.

If you're interested, you can check out pics of many of the various Cosmic Encounter editions here.

Inkscape: open source vector drawing

If you like the GIMP, the open source replacement for Photoshop, then you should try Inkscape. It's a vector drawing tool, like Adobe Illustrator. I've been playing with it, and it's pretty fun. Here's a drawring I made:

Ubuntu 5.04

I've already talked about how much I like Ubuntu Linux. Last week was the release of the new version, code-named Hoary Hedgehog. I had been using Warty Warthog, the version that came out last fall. Upgrading was easy. I didn't have to download a new cd. Shoot, I didn't even have to reboot. I just told it to pull software from the new repositories and then typed "sudo dist-upgrade" on the command line. It took a few hours, but it worked great. When that was done I switched to the KDE desktop, which is a new addition in this version of Ubuntu. It's so pretty. If you want a little taste of KDE, then you can use this theme for Firefox, which is based on a KDE theme. Shiny.
