Halle's a Little Upset

Irish Examiner> Breaking News> Film's criticism adds to Halle's woes

Nate posted this on BUBBS and I had to put it up here. It comes as no surprise to me that Halle Barry is really embarassed about Catwoman. They're already shelving the internet trailers. Maybe they'll shelve the whole movie and spare any poor soul who might be foolish enough to purchase a ticket for this thing.

Ticked Off

I'm a little angry right now. I missed lunch today because I was waiting for someone I was supposed to meet. They stood me up. I'm sure they will apologize, but actions speak louder than words. I didn't have anything else to do after that so I slept. I missed dinner. Now I'm hungry but no one wants to go eat with me. Everyone has their own thing going on. Sometimes I get frustrated because I will drop everything for someone else but when I want to talk to someone or need something it's like pulling teeth. This isn't always the case and I'm not just talking about today, but man, it gets old. That's all.

The myths behind school accountability

My Education Rant seems to have touched off a small debate. I have delayed responding until now, because I thought this deserves its own entry.

I believe that any discussion of accountability is difficult because it is so wrapped up in politics, especially when you look at how this accountability age came to be. It began with Jimmy Carter creating the Department of Education, which many conservatives saw as an example of unnecessary big government spending. When Reagan failed to disban the Department, he attempted to undermine it, appointing William Bennett the secretary of education, and charging him with the task of showing the increasing deficiencies of American education. It would take too long to argue against all of the specific claims made, but Gerald W. Bracey does a thorough job in his annual Bracey Report. His background is in statistics, and he began to look at the claims being made about education in the 1980s from a purely non-partisan viewpoint. He concluded that there was no evidence of declining student performance.

schtuff

Well, I haven't been posting much lately. Sorry about that. It's not for a lack of things to talk about. I've actually been TOOOOO busy.

- We just got our thank-you postcards recently, and I've been working on updating addresses and etc. for that stuff.

- We just got a counter offer on the house and are in the process of accepting it. We're calling and faxing back and forth a lot.

- Work is busy. I think I'm enjoying myself because one of my supervisors is gone. But yeah, pre-reg is keeping me pretty tired!

- I need to do laundry. Three weeks ago, we were busy with Ric's grandparents and the Morgans. Two weeks ago I went to Coachella. One week ago I went to Arizona. I haven't had a weekend break in a while. HEY GRACE - we should go to a movie or something sometime this weekend. BTW, MSN Messenger isn't letting me sign on, and I'm bored and want to chat you.

- I'm still doing this massive project of copying all of my sister's cds. The problem is that I get all artsy and try to duplicate the artwork on the cds.

- There's probably more, but it's not all that interesting for you, the reader.

Bible Question

Erika and I read this passage last night. It has caused us some confusion in the past, and we have yet to find an answer to our questions. I was wondering if anyone could share some insight.

The issue is the passage from 2 Samuel 24. The NIV reads (verse 1): "Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, 'Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.'" David does so, and Israel is punished for his sin. This raises a question in my mind: how can David both sin and obey God's command at the same time?

A further complication arises when one looks at the accompanying passage from 1 Chronicles 21, which states that it is Satan, not God, who incites David to take the census. Is there a way to reconcile these passages?

Useful Site of the Day

YES.NET

Want to know what that song was you heard on the radio? If you live in a larger city you can plug in where you live, the name of the station, and the approximate time you heard the song and it will tell you what was playing. Pretty neat.

Nickelodeon Turning 25

Yahoo! News - THE STARR REPORT

Nickelodeon is gearing up for their 25th birthday festivities next month. How about doing something really cool and doing a marathon of their older shows? In case you don't remember, Nickelodeon used to have really cool shows: You Can't Do That On Television, Out of Control, Pete and Pete, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Clarissa Explains It All, Welcome Freshmen, Double Dare, and many more. These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I would love to see some of these shows again, but so far it hasn't happened.
