Ok, here at central there is a certain RA who needs to learn how to be made fun of. Last night some guys pulled some pranks on him, and he has completely overreaccted. He is having a "Serious Talk" with the guys who did it. Well, I think he needs to calm down. Why? Because this is exactly what the people who made fun of him want him to do. Overreact and just go ballistic. I have been made fun of a lot in my life, and 9 times out of 10 it is for a reaction. If you just look at the guys who do it and smile they don't do it again, or if they do it again they want to get a reaction. Still just look smile, and continue what you were doing. The best way to deal with mockers is to not give them what they want. If you realize that, then you know how to be made fun of.
.jeri.: a quick pictorial summary of coachella
If you want to know what Coachella was like, check out Jeri's post. It pretty much sums it up.
You've probably already heard about this worm on the news. It's a result of yet another security hole in Microsoft Windows, and it's hitting pretty close to home. A couple people I know have already had it, including my mom's company. Here are some things to do to protect yourself from Sasser and other security threats.
1. Run Windows Update often. You have to do this in Internet Explorer (it's one thing that Firefox can't do). Run this about once a week or set your computer up to do it automatically.
2. Never open attachments from people you don't know.
3. Get DSL and a modem/router with a hardware firewall. If you live in Adrian, MO, it's available now.
Numbers one and two are the most important, but it's also a good idea to install a personal software firewall and some Anti-virus software (which you must also keep updated). Excepting DSL, all of these tips are free.
Here's another nice little tip from The Screen Savers. You can get disposable email accounts at DodgeIt.com. Here's how it works: You're signing up for a download or message board or whatever, and they want an email address so they can send you a password. Who knows what you'll get if you give them your reall address. So, in the email field just enter *whatever*@dodgeit.com (*whatever* can really be whatever you want, you don't have to set up an account beforehand, just use your name or anything you want.) Now the email will be sent to this account, which you access by going to Dodgeit.com. Just put in the screenname you chose (no password required) and you'll be taken to the in box. If someone else has used that name before, then you'll see lots of messages, but yours is probably at the top. Just open it, get the password that you need, and you've registered without giving away your real email address. But remember to change your password, because the dodgeit.com messages are available to anyone. Actually, I wouldn't use this for anything that you want to be really secure, since people could always have the new password emailed back to dodgeit.com. But this could be useful for getting around the hassle of registering, especially when BugMeNot.com doesn't have a username for it.
DAY ONE
IMAGINE THIS, ONLY WITH A FIREHOSE. THAT'S WHAT WE GOT.

THIS IS THE SITE.

THIS IS THE CROWD.

THIS IS WHERE WE TRIED TO SEE BECK.

THIS IS THE PIXIES PERFORMANCE.

THIS IS THE RADIOHEAD PERFORMANCE.

DAY TWO
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF FEMALE "ATTIRE" AT THE FESTIVAL.

THIS IS THE AIR PERFORMANCE. GREAT SOUND.

THIS IS THE LEAD SINGER OF THE FLAMING LIPS IN A BUBBLE.

THIS IS THE CURE PERFORMANCE (TIME TO CUT THE HAIR AGAIN).

APPARENTLY SOMEONE FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES OF SMOKE AND DIRT FILLING THE AIR.
More to come.
News: Autumn equinox for 'Potter' book six?
According to a tipster, notice was sent to book publishers that warned them to "be prepared to print copies of the next HP book" by that date. The site's analysis theorizes that since Order of the Phoenix was released on June 21, or summer solstace, it may be that author JK Rowling is attempting an autumn equinox, or September 22, release for book 6.
The article also states that an earlier source said the book won't be out until next summer at the earliest. Sooner would definitely be better than later. I was going to say that Rowling should crank it out soon for the sake of the movies, but that is a really dumb reason to publish a book. I'm sure it comes into play with these books though.
